Behind the Screens

Hi there, and welcome to my page! My name is Carol – born in New Jersey to an American mom and Lebanese immigrant father. Whether it be my intercultural DNA or international experiences, I can’t help but feel like a global citizen – and wish to see the day where we can embrace the beauty in the diversity of cultures that each person and place carries, and decorates the tapestry of the world with.
In my adult life I’ve gotten the privilege of living and traveling to 5 out of the 7 continents, over 30 nations, and countless cities and villages around Europe, Middle East, the Americas, and North Africa. In each place I’ve encountered people, places and personal testimonies of the grandness of God’s good plan and wisdom beyond what I could ever even make up in my head to even ask for. More than what my imagination could fathom. His ways are just so much higher than ours. I’ve had my camera by my side through most of my journeys, and have tried my best to document the beauty of this world we get to live in. Of course, a picture is worth 1000 words, but sometimes words are needed to expand upon the images alone. So I try my best to bring both to the table to give you a window into the world you may or may not ever get to experience for yourself.
My hope is to be an “eye” to see the beauty of the Master Creator and reflect that back into the digital world to share with whoever is needing a fresh look at what’s going on in this world, beyond a mass-marketed news reel. This is all unto His ultimate glory, and not for my own, and I hope to shine a glimmer of light into the darkness and make the world feel less of a fearful place, but one to be explored, celebrated and cherished.
xoxo
Carol

Candor Collective
Candor Collective is a place of gathering honest thoughts, photos, stories, artwork, and goods collected from around the world. It’s about connecting to cultures and people who are far removed from our daily rhythms, and conversely noticing our neighbor across the street and seeing them in a new light. Something changes when we stop to look.
To really look at the world in front of us. To notice the people who make up this globe both near and far, and how interconnected we are despite our differences.
Ignorant to the world outside my doorstep for most of my life, my eyes were opened when I spent a semester in Florence, Italy. My eyes were opened to a world so much bigger than what I had formerly realized. People who arrange their lives in different ways, that prioritize values unalike what I grew up with, who eat, sleep, commune and converse in completely diverse way. Thenceforth, a deep urgency in my gut arose within to set out to discover the infinite diversity, yes paradoxically common humanity that this world has to offer.
My hope is that reading these stories, looking at these photos, and browsing the creations designed by people all over the world, connect you to the unique heart that each person and culture carries and expresses into the world. That it closes the gap between us and them. My people and your people. From foreign to familiar. What can we learn from our neighbor? The lost, least and furthest? Our loved ones or our enemies? Can we find and embrace the beauty in each person God created? As a man I met in a remote mountain village in Nepal, the furthest from home I ever had been said,
Even though we are from different countries, we are one family.
Let these words ring true in your heart as you continue to explore the nooks and crannies of the
Candor Collective.
